Do It On A Tuesday (Kim)

There is never a good time.

People say they want to wait for a good time. They want to start on Monday. They want to start on the first of the month. They will start on New Years. They will start after someone else does something. They will start after X happens. They will start when Y occurs. Oh, no, after this, after that, now Z is here

But I promise, right after Z..... then.... then I'll start.

But, there is no perfect time. There is only now. And today.... today is Tuesday.

There is never a good time. When is there going to be time to write that book, go to the gym, see all your loved ones? Is there time for self care? Is there time for that hobby you've been missing? How about just one second in nature where you can stare wistfully into the sunset?

Can we do it now? Is now a good time? Perhaps not because it is Tuesday.

Oh no! I missed my mark!

What mark? Monday? Did it hold some significant mental sway to you to start on a Monday? Is the start of the week triggering to you because you keep missing that mark? Are you now telling yourself that you can wait for next Monday? Maybe April 1? No, that won't work. April 1 is a Friday! We can't start at the end of the week. No no. That won't do at all. Guess it will have to be next Monday.

What about now? Today is Tuesday. I promise, whatever you are putting off, there is a high chance you can start it RIGHT NOW.

How do you know?

Well, recently someone asked me how I got to be where I was. That could mean a lot of things. They were really asking how I got so involved with Letters Against Depression, but it launched me on a deeper quest to understand where I am today.

What time are you supposed to do things?

Now. Mostly now anyway.

I job hunt on Sunday. I change my workout routine on Wednesday. I picked up a book that was recommended to me on a Tuesday, but didn't start reading it until Monday. I will absolutely change my diet in the middle of the month if what I'm doing isn't working for me. I text multiple people daily while we're all at work and not at work and on weekends. Awkward? Sometimes. You know that person I haven't emailed in over a year? You bet your butt that I sent them a random email today.

So what if it's Tuesday!

So what if it isn't the perfect moment in time? What if my text or email wasn't the greatest moment to get it? What if I called someone and they were busy and couldn't pick up that second? Does it matter if it's not Monday or the start of a new month or quarter or year? Last week I tossed a quick jog into my walk. Why? Because there's no perfect time to start jogging. Especially when one really hates jogging. That's a good reason to put it off. But there I was, jogging..... on a Thursday.

I got to where I am because I didn't wait. I've told people how I felt in the moment, I've emailed and called at weird times, I send messages to people I haven't talked to in ages and on purpose! I diet and exercise in a weird pattern. I start books on a Friday at noon. I even started a business one day while waiting for a date that showed up 4 HOURS LATE.

There is never a good time. There is only now. Embrace it.

Do it on a Tuesday.
